Complete required DEQ training and present course completion certificate(s) at the exam center.

(Note: If your course completion certificate is older than 12 months, you will still be permitted to sit for your exam).

Complete the work experience form documenting 800 hours of relevant experience and present the form at the exam center.

All exam fees are paid on the Pearson VUE website. ESC and SWM certifications can be combined for dual certification in the Certification Accreditation Tracking System (CATS).

• Program Administrator (1.5 hours) = $85
• Inspector (two hours) = $85
• Plan Reviewer (three hours) = $102
• Combined Administrator (four hours) = $117

Exam fees are increasing starting on July 1, 2025. 

Candidates sitting for their exam on or before June 30, 2025, will pay the current fees. Candidates sitting for their exam starting July 1, 2025, will pay the new fees:

• Program Administrator (1.5 hours) = $105
• Inspector (two hours) = $105
• Plan Reviewer (three hours) = $125
• Combined Administrator (four hours) = $140

Immediately after the exam, Pearson VUE will provide a score report to the candidate. If the candidate passes, DEQ will email a certification directly to the candidate.

• DEQ will use the email entered by the candidate during exam registration
• DEQ will not mail a hard copy of the certification

Provisional certification is a mechanism that allows individuals to conduct work while they are taking classes and taking their exam. It is not intended as a substitute for obtaining certification.

Individuals seeking SWM or ESC certification are required to obtain a passing score on the certification exam within one year from the date they complete the required training course(s).

Individuals can be provisionally certified once per certification type.
