Office of Water Supply Online Reporting: (VA Hydro)

DEQ strives for the most accurate collection of data while also ensuring convenience for its stakeholders.  The Office of Water Supply has developed an online reporting platform, VA Hydro, for internal and external users to enter and access data electronically.  VA Hydro will integrate the Office of Water Supply’s permitting, compliance, and planning programs into a shared accessible database.  This program integration is fundamental in understanding existing water resources as well as planning for the future.

§ 62.1-258 of the Code of Virginia stipulates that all certified water well system providers register wells constructed in a groundwater management area to be registered within 30 days of the well’s completion.  The VA Hydro online platform for water well registration allows certified system providers to register wells electronically, without having to submit a paper copy to DEQ or VDH. Well drillers and certified system providers outside of a groundwater management area are also welcome to register wells into VA Hydro.

The Virginia Water Withdrawal Reporting Regulation (9VAC25-200-10, et seq.) requires the annual reporting of surface and ground water withdrawals.  Withdrawal reports for the previous calendar year are due on January 31.  The purpose of withdrawal reporting is to enable appropriate planning for the Commonwealth's future water needs through the collection of accurate information.

Currently, Water Well Registrations and Annual Water Withdrawal Reporting are accessible online.  A user name and password are required for entry into VA Hydro.  For questions and inquiries, please contact Trevor Lawson at (804-698-4113).
