The Groundwater Characterization Program (GWCP) collects, evaluates, and interprets hydrogeological information essential for ensuring the sustainable management of groundwater resources throughout the Commonwealth. GWCP staff assess groundwater availability and ambient groundwater quality throughout Virginia and provide critical data and analysis for management decisions in legislatively designated
Groundwater Management Areas. GWCP staff also facilitate monitoring for drought conditions and provide technical support to DEQ’s
Water Supply Program.
