Brief Project Description

The existing Dale Service Corporation Section 1 WWTF, with a permitted design flow of 4.0 million gallons per day (MGD), consists of influent screening and grit removal, equalization basin for surge capacity, biological nutrient removal by Sequencing Biological Reactors (SBRs) that discharge to a surge pond, tertiary clarification and tertiary filtration for solids polishing, followed by ultraviolet (UV) disinfection.  The solids handling/processing system includes aerobic digestion, gravity thickening, and dewatering by belt filter press.

Under the proposal submitted for nutrient removal cost share, the WWTF will be upgraded for nutrient removal at State of the Art (SOA) technology level, and the capacity will be expanded to 4.6 MGD.  The project will consist of the following:

  • Installation of a foam control spray system and hypochlorite storage and feed equipment, to control activated sludge bulking and foaming in the SBRs
  • Replacement of the dissolved oxygen (DO) meters in the SBRs
  • Installation of a supplemental carbon storage and feed system
  • Rehabilitation of the two existing tertiary clarifiers
  • Construction of one new tertiary clarifier
  • Installation of aluminum salt feed equipment for the new tertiary clarifier
  • Installation of one new disk filter
  • Rehabilitation and upgrade of the aerobic digester blowers
  • Upgrade of the recycle pump station
  • Installation of a supplemental carbon storage and feed system
  • Installation of sludge thickening equipment in the aerobic digestion system
  • Installation of static mixers for aluminum salt feed on the tertiary clarifiers
  • Installation of walkways on the existing tertiary filters

The total cost of the DCSC #1 STP upgrade is estimated to be $5.4 million with approximately 36% of the project attributable to NRT facilities at a cost of $1.9 million.
