Ongoing Phase III WIP Local Engagement

Now that the initial outreach initiative is completed, DEQ has developed a Local Engagement Strategy aimed at providing local, regional and federal partners with the tools and information necessary to identify pollutant reduction strategies to be incorporated into the Phase III WIP.  This Strategy will evolve as we receive input from our stakeholders.  Links to both the Strategy and a timeline with key miles stones are below.

Phase III WIP - Initial Outreach

DEQ conducted initial outreach meetings for local governments and Soil & Water Conservation Districts in seven regional areas across Virginia's Chesapeake Bay Watershed from January of 2017 through November of 2017.  During these meetings, information was presented on the Phase III WIP process and schedule, the status of the Chesapeake Bay water quality, and expectations for local entities during the Phase III WIP process.  The meetings were also an opportunity for local entities to provide DEQ with their input and questions regarding the process and identify any concerns.  These meetings were attended by a total of 250 representatives from localities, Soil & Water Conservation Districts, conservation organizations and other stakeholders. A table summarizing the meeting attendance and dates is attached below, as is a 'Common Themes' document that identifies the common issues and concerns raised at the meetings.
