Project Title:

Leveraging Economic Benefits of the Natural Resources of the Lower Chickahominy River - GMU Stakeholder Engagement Support

Project Description:

The work described here will be conducted in support of the Institute for Environmental Negotiation at the University of Virginia (IEN) (Task 93.02)  to provide facilitation and engagement services related to Year Three Activities of the five-year strategy developed by the Virginia Coastal Zone Management Program to establish a collaborative planning process for James City County, Charles City County and New Kent County that will identify and establish a vision for land conservation priorities.  Year Three Activities include stakeholder interviews and focus group sessions designed to further define stakeholder interests and issues, and identify policy and planning approaches that will maximize ecological and socio-economic benefits.

The work described here will be conducted by the Center for Regional Analysis at George Mason University (CRA).  In general, CRA will provide to IEN and the Virginia Coastal Zone Management Program (VCZMP) subject-matter expertise on eliciting stakeholder perspective on economic and cost-benefit considerations to this project.

The Center for Regional Analysis is led by Dr. Terry L. Clower who will be supported by Dr. Mark White (deputy director), and Mr. Spencer Shanholtz (research associate). Collectively, the CRA team has almost 40 years of experience conducting regional economic analysis and has provided previous research support to the Virginia Coastal Zone Management Program.
