Quinby Harbor to Wachapreague Town Marina

Route Description:

This Advanced route follows Great Gap Channel, the Waterway Coast of Virginia and Wachapreague Channel for approximately 13 miles through shallow, open bays. Intermediate paddlers can explore the area outside Quinby Harbor. Beginners should avoid Quinby due to the small harbor, heavy recreational and commercial fishing activity, and open water.

Launch at the Quinby Harbor boat ramp. Stay to the left side of the channel as you depart in order to avoid powerboat traffic. At Channel Marker # 13 veer to the right and follow the Great Gap Channel out toward Parramore Island. After passing marker #1 look to the East Southeast for marker #158A. Paddle toward 158A and then take a Left to follow Little Sloop Channel. Follow the markers through the channel. At marker #149 be sure to head North into Swash Bay and look ahead for marker #147. Continue to follow the channel markers toward Millstone Creek. At marker #138 head Northwest and continue to follow the markers up Millstone Creek toward the Town of Wachapreague. As the creek begins to turn North and follow the waterfront section of town you will see several boat ramps. The public landing is located at the Town Marina approximately 300 yards north of the Island House restaurant. While paddling this channel, stay to the Eastern side to avoid boat traffic. Always cross the channel at a right angle to get to the Town Marina boat ramp.
