Up Parkers Creek

Route Description:

Beginners can paddle west and explore the well-protected waters of Parkers Creek.

Launch at the Parkers Creek boat ramp. While using the boat ramp be aware of powerboat traffic at all times. As you enter the creek take a Right (West) and head up the creek. Consider the tidal currents in planning your trip. As you wind through the marshes that line Parkers Creek keep an eye out for wading birds and small mammals. The main channel will meander past several small concentrations of houses until coming to a dead-end at a marsh. This marsh allows for excellent bird watching. Return to the boat ramp by retracing your route and be sure to be aware of boat traffic at all times as this is a popular spot for commercial watermen and recreational fishermen.

Route Description:

Advanced and Intermediate paddlers can both do this trip along Metompkin Island. About 8 miles.

Launch at the Parker Creek boat ramp. While using the boat ramp be aware of powerboat traffic at all times. As you enter the creek take a Left and follow the main channel out through the marshes to Metomkin Bay. As you pass marker #4 turn Left (North) and paddle toward marker #77. Continue to follow the channel markers as they approach and then follow the coastline of Metomkin Island. At marker #66 look to your Left (Northwest) across Gargathy Bay for the boat ramp at Gargathy Creek. Paddle across Gargathy Bay to the boat ramp. You should always be aware of the effects of the tide on the water levels in this wide, shallow bay. As you approach the boat ramp be aware of powerboat traffic entering and exiting the creek.
