Exam Information

How to Register for an Exam

Exams are administered by Pearson VUE. Visit the Pearson VUE website to:

  • Create an account and register for the exam
  • Download the Candidate Information Booklet
  • Find exam preparation tips

How to Qualify for an Exam

  1. Complete required training and present course completion certificate(s) at the exam center; or
  2. Complete the work experience form documenting 800 hours of relevant experience and present the form at the exam center

How to Print Your Course Completion Certificate

  • Log in to ELMS and click on View Completed Transcripts
  • For courses taken before April 2019, log in to the VLC (help video)

Exam Fees

All exam fees are paid on the Pearson VUE website.

  • Program Administrator (2 hours) = $85
  • Inspector (2 hours) = $85
  • Plan Reviewer (3 hours) = $102
  • Combined Administrator (4 hours) = $117

Certificate of Competency

Immediately after the exam, Pearson will provide a score report to the candidate. If the candidate passes, DEQ will email a certificate of competency directly to the candidate.

  • DEQ will use the email entered by the candidate during exam registration
  • DEQ will not mail a hard copy of the certificate 

Provisional Certification

Provisional certification is a mechanism that allows individuals to conduct work while they are taking classes and taking their exam.  It is not intended as a substitute for obtaining certification.

Individuals seeking SWM or ESC certification will be considered provisionally certified as a program administrator, an inspector, and/or a plan reviewer for one year from the date they complete the required training course(s).

Individuals can be provisionally certified once per certification type.
