Virginia Petroleum Storage Tank Program
Petroleum database files for downloading can be found here. Information on petroleum release sites and registered petroleum storage tanks is available for import into a database or spreadsheet program. All files are updated by the 7th of each month.  The most frequently requested Storage Tank Program data sets are presented below:

  • Underground Storage Tank (UST) registration files:  these files contain data for registered petroleum storage tanks. “register.zip” is a non self-extracting zip file containing one text file “i_register” that gives instructions and data field information, and nine ASCII Comma Delimited text files. The nine files are; owners.txt, regfacility.txt, tanks.txt, usttankmaterials.txt, ustpipematerials.txt, usttankpipereleasedetection.txt, asttankmaterials.txt, asttankfoundationroof.txt, asttankcontainmentdetectionprevention.txt).  It is best to open these ASCII Comma Delimited text files in a database application program. A database program will separate the fields/columns when the file is opened.
  • Petroleum Release data files: is a spreadsheet file containing current release information from the active Petroleum Program database. There is also a zipped version as a text file to be used in spreadsheet or database software.
