RAAP Air Emissions Monitoring

A new lead monitor is now installed and operating near the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Montgomery County. The monitor is similar to other monitors installed in Virginia and nationally for the purpose of establishing the concentration of lead in the air. The monitor is required by federal regulation to monitor for lead, and it will operate on a one-in-six-day sampling schedule established by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The first day of operation for the new monitor was October 4, 2017. The site contains a primary monitor and a collocated monitor for quality assurance purposes. DEQ has received laboratory results for October 2017 to June 2018, and they are significantly below the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for lead which is 150 ng/m3. Data results in the tables below are shown in nanograms per cubic meter (a nanogram is one-billionth of a gram).
