Final Water Quality Assessment Guidance Manual
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) released the final Water Quality Assessment Guidance Manual (DEQ Assessment Guidance) on December 12, 2005.
Section 62.1-44.19:5 C of the Code of Virginia requires DEQ to develop and publish the procedures used for defining and determining impaired waters and provide for public comment on the procedures. The DEQ Assessment Guidance contains the assessment procedures and methods to be used for the development of Virginia's 2006 �305(b)/ �303(d) Integrated (i.e. combined Water Quality Assessment and Impaired Waters) Report. The 2006 Integrated Report is due to the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by April 1, 2006.
A draft version of this guidance was released for public review and comment on August 22, 2005. A public information meeting on the guidance was held on September 7, 2005. The public comment period closed on September 23. In response to comments from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the public, several modifications were made to the draft guidance; in particular, the assessment of newly-adopted Chesapeake Bay-related Water Quality Standards has been refined. Public Information Meeting on Draft Water Quality Assessment Guidance Manual
On September 7th a public information meeting was held at DEQ Headquarters. The purpose of this meeting was to inform interested parties of the assessment process and significant changes to the assessment guidance. A copy of the presentaion given at the meeting can be found here:
