Watershed Task Force

The Virginia Watershed Planning and Permitting Coordination Task Force was created by action of the 1997 Virginia General Assembly.

Purpose - The task force is to undertake such measures and activities it deems necessary and appropriate to see that the functions of the agencies represented on the task force, as well as other agencies and authorities involved in watershed planning and watershed permitting, are coordinated and promoted.

Increased coordination of these programs will:

  • Help identify overlaps and gaps in programs that may exist.
  • Improve the quality of multiple reporting to the General Assembly and the general public.
  • Improve the quality and effectiveness of federal/state-funded projects
  • Lead to more effective permitting and other management actions
  • Expedite sharing of information among agencies, including notices of compliance problems and violations of state law and regulations.

Annual report - Each year the task force issues a report on Watershed Planning and Permitting in the Commonwealth.
