Vehicles
Fuel efficient and alternative fuel vehicle technology has been steadily moving forward. These vehicles are being produced on a wide-scale basis by major automobile manufacturers. While fuel cell vehicles are still in the prototype stages, hybrid vehicles are currently available. Hybrid vehicles combine two or more sources of power. The Toyota Prius and Honda Insight are examples of hybrids. They are fuel efficient and comparable to the cost of a conventional vehicle.
If buying a hybrid is not on your agenda, there are simple measures that you can take to improve fuel efficiency. Here are some helpful tips:
- Streamline your car - avoid open windows, bicycles, and roof racks with your car to reduce the amount of drag.
- Maintain a consistent speed - observe the speed limit, avoid stomping the gas pedal and slamming on the brakes.
- Take care of your vehicle - keeping up with required factory maintenance will enhance the life of your automobile and keep it operating in optimal condition.
- Shift into overdrive - (if your vehicle has the option) shifting into overdrive allows the engine to run slower, maintains speed, and uses less fuel.
- Check tire pressure - check the air regularly with a pressure gauge.
