Thermostat recycling
Thermostat Recycling Corporation, or TRC, is a service provided by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). TRC provide recycling of mercury-containing thermostats, free-of-charge, for wholesale dealers specializing in Heating & Air Conditioning (HVAC). Participating dealers volunteer to accept the thermostats, which contain approximately 3 grams of mercury a piece, from the HVAC contractors that buy from them. and then can ship the bins in pre-paid postage containers to TRC for recycling. The Virginia DEQ supports TRC by linking to TRC and the list of the 65 Virginia dealers who participate.
See the factsheet (MS Word format) or the TRC website.
