Lamp recyclers? Pick a good vendor!

Actual recovery of the mercury and other materials, can only be conducted by a facility licensed for TSD (treatment, storage & disposal) of hazardous wastes. There are no TSD facilities in Virginia, however, there are various companies around the country that specialize in lamp recycling; and they usually provide for an array of shipping, collection and other services. The Association of Lighting & Mercury Recyclers maintains a list at www.lamprecycle.org.

In Virginia, there are many environmental consultants and vendors that will provide for shipping to these facilities. These companies are typically licensed haulers of hazardous materials, and they should be able to help you with shipping requirements and recordkeeping. The Virginia DEQ is maintaining a list of vendors who assist in lamp recycling (vendors can email vendor list to be on the list.)
