New guidance for Management of Sharps

A new guidance entitled “Management of Sharps” has been posted to Virginia Regulatory Town
Hall and the DEQ public website. This guidance replaces the old 1996 sharps guidance. An abbreviated one-page flyer that focuses on the management of household sharps only will be posted to the DEQ public website shortly.

Jennifer Griffith from the Northeast Waste Management Officials’ Association (NEWMOA) will present the findings and results of her work with 3 rural areas in New Hampshire and Vermont to promote pay-as-you-throw strategies. This will include the development of 11 new case studies. 4 outreach brochures and 2 fact sheets and an online SMART toolkit. Representatives from the Northeast Kingdom Waste Management District (VT) and the Windham Solid Waste Management District (VT) will also participate.
