Activated Sludge Process Control, Part 2 (Calculations and Troubleshooting) - February 12 & 13, 2014


The DEQ, Operator Training Program will be conducting an Activated Sludge Process Control Part 2 workshop on February 12 and 13, 2014 (8:30am - 4:30pm) at the H.R.S.D. Atlantic WWTP in Virginia Beach, VA.

This two day workshop will focus on basic and advanced process control strategies, process control calculations, data interpretation and process troubleshooting.

The program's hands on activities will include:

Analysis of operational data
Performing process control calculations
Using the data to adjust operating levels
Troubleshooting performance problems

Managers, operators and operator trainees of activated sludge treatment systems will find this program very helpful.

The workshop has been approved by the State Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators and Onsite Sewage System Professionals for 2.0 training credits.

Up to 14 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Contact Hours will also be given for completion of the workshop.

DEQ, Water Permit Reporting Workshops February 11, 2014 Virginia Beach, VA


The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Operator Training Program will be presenting "Water Permit Reporting Workshops" at the DEQ Tidewater Regional Office (VA Beach)on Tuesday February 11, 2014 from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

The program includes the following two workshops:

Nutrient General Permit Reporting(8:30 am - 12 noon)
VPDES Permit Reporting(1 pm - 5:30 pm)

Both workshops have been approved by the Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators and Onsite Sewage System Professionals for the following training credits (TC) and can be used for experience substituiton as permitted by the Board.

VPDES Permit: 0.35 TC
Nutrient General Permit: 0.30 TC

Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Contact Hours will also be given for completion of the workshop(s)as follows:

VPDES Permit: 4.0 CPE's
Nutrient General Permit: 34.5 CPE's

Registrations are accepted on a "first come, first serve" basis.

Program Costs:

$37.50 each workshop(payable by check or money order)

DEQ, Activated Sludge Process Control Part 1 Workshop (Glen Allen)


The DEQ, Operator Training Program, will be conducting an Activated Sludge Process Control Part 1 workshop on February 10 - 11, 2014 at the Piedmont Regional Office, located in Glen Allen, VA.

The program will focus on basic concepts of the activated sludge process including common observations, basic process control testing, (e.g., Dissolved oxygen, solids, pH),data interpretation and recordkeeping.

The program's hands on activities will include observation of an activated sludge treatment system and collection and analysis of process control samples.

Managers, operators and operator trainees of activated sludge treatment systems will find this program very helpful.

The workshop has been approved by the State Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators and Onsite Sewage System Professionals for 2.0 training credits.

DEQ, Operator Training Intro to BNR 1/28-1/29/14


The DEQ, Operator Training Program will be conducting an Introduction to Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) workshop on January 28 & 29, 2014 (8:30am - 4:30pm) at the Hanover County Totopotomoy WWTP.

The program will provide an introduction to the basic concepts associated with biological nutrient removal (nitrification, denitrification and biological phosphorus removal).

If you operate or manage a treatment system which includes biological nutrient removal or will be required to implement biological nutrient removal, this program will be helpful.

The workshop has been approved by the State Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators and Onsite Sewage System Professionals for 1.2 training credits.

Up to 14 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Contact Hours will also be given for completion of the workshop.

Cost of the workshop is $150 payable by check or money order.
