The DEQ, Operator Training program has scheduled "Nutrient General Permit Reporting" workshops at the following locations:

DEQ, Valley Region (Harrisonburg office)
Tuesday, November 18 (9am - 12:30 pm)

DEQ Blue Ridge Region (Roanoke office)
Thursday, November 20 (9 am - 12:30 pm)

The program will include discussions of general recordkeeping requirements and the various reporting requirements established in the Nutrient General Permit.

The program will also include hands on exercises in performing required calculations and completing the Nutrient General Permit monthly discharge monitoring report (DMR) and Annual Report Form.

Managers and responsible charge operators with responsibility for complying with the requirements of the treatment system's Nutrient General Permit will find this program helpful.

There is no registration fee for this special workshop; However, persons wishing to attend are asked to register to ensure sufficient materials and space are available.

The DEQ Operator Training Program will be conducting an Activated Sludge Process Control Part I workshop at the following locations:

Hanover County Totopotomoy WWTP
October 14 - 16, 2008

DEQ, West Central Regional Office
October 21 - 23, 2008

This workshop provides the knowledge and skills required to monitor and adjust the operation of an activated sludge treatment plant.

The program will focus on the basic concepts, process observations, basic process control testing, recordkeeping and data interpertation.

The program's hands on activities will include observation of an activated sludge system, collection and analysis of process control samples, and data analysis.

Managers, operators and operator trainees of activated sludge treatment systems will find this program very helpful.

The workshop has been approved by the State Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators and Onsite Sewage System Professionals for 2.0 training credits.

Answers to frequently asked questions during the training on changes to 40 CFR Part 136 has been updated.

Revision 2 (07/18/08) is availabe on the DEQ website @ http://www.deq.virginia.gov/vpdes/ under the "what's new" section.

There is a 2-day "Introduction to Biological Nutrient Removal" workshop scheduled for September 16 - 17, 2008 at the City of Lynchburg wastewater treatment facility in Lynchburg, Virginia.

The cost of the workshop is $100 payable in advance by check or money order to the Department of Environmental Quality.
