DEQ, Activated Sludge Process Control Part 2 Workshops (May 2013)

The DEQ, Operator Training Program will be conducting an Activated Sludge Process Control Part 2 workshop at the following dates, times and locations

May 14 & 15, 2013 (8:30am - 4:30pm)at the Massaponnax WWTP in Fredericksburg, VA

May 21 & 22, 2013 (8:330 am - 4:30pm) at the HRSD Offices in Virginia Beach, VA

These two day workshops will focus on basic and advanced process control strategies, process control calculations, data interpretation and process troubleshooting.

The program's hands on activities will include:

Analysis of operational data
Performing process control calculations
Using the data to adjust operating levels
Troubleshooting performance problems

Managers, operators and operator trainees of activated sludge treatment systems will find this program very helpful.

The workshop has been approved by the State Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators and Onsite Sewage System Professionals for 2.0 training credits.

Up to 14 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Contact Hours will also be given for completion of the workshop.

DEQ, Water Permit Reporting Workshops May 23, 2013 Virginia Beach, VA

The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Operator Training Program will be presenting "Water Permit Reporting Workshops" at the DEQ Tidewater Regional Office (VA Beach)on Thursday May 23, 2013 from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

The program includes the following two workshops:

Nutrient General Permit Reporting(8:30 am - 11 am)
VPDES Permit Reporting(11 am - 5:30 pm)

Both workshops have been approved by the Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators and Onsite Sewage System Professionals for the following training credits (TC) and can be used for experience substituiton as permitted by the Board.

Nutrient General Permit: 0.30 TC
VPDES Permit: 0.35 TC

Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Contact Hours will also be given for completion of the workshop(s)as follows:

Nutrient General Permit: 3.0 CPE's
VPDES Permit: 4.5 CPE's

Registrations are accepted on a "first come, first serve" basis.

Program Costs:

$37.50 each workshop(payable by check or money order)

After May 14, 2013: $50.00 each workshop

The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Operator Training Program will be presenting a "VPDES Permit Reporting" Workshop at the DEQ Southwest Regional Office in Abingdon, VA on Thursday April 11, 2013 from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm.

The workshop has been approved by the Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators and Onsite Sewage System Professionals for 0.35 training credits (TC) and can be used for experience substituiton as permitted by the Board.

3.5 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Contact Hours will also be given for completion of the workshop.

Program Costs: $37.50 if received before 4/2/13, $50.00 if received after 4/2/13(payable by check or money order)

DEQ, Activated Sludge Process Control Part 1 Workshop (Verona)

The DEQ, Operator Training Program, will be conducting an Activated Sludge Process Control Part 1 workshop on March 26 - 27, 2013 at the Middle River WWTP, located in Verona, VA.

The program will focus on basic concepts of the activated sludge process including common observations, basic process control testing, (e.g., Dissolved oxygen, solids, pH),data interpretation and recordkeeping.

The program's hands on activities will include observation of an activated sludge treatment system and collection and analysis of process control samples.

Managers, operators and operator trainees of activated sludge treatment systems will find this program very helpful.

The workshop has been approved by the State Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators and Onsite Sewage System Professionals for 2.0 training credits.

DEQ, Operator Training Math Workshop Chesterfield, VA January 15 - 16, 2013

The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ)Operator training program will be presenting the "Wastwater Math for Operators" workshop at the Chesterfield County, Proctors Creek WWTP on January 15 - 16, 2013 from 8:30am - 4:30pm.

The workshop provides hands on instruction in performing wastewater treatment related calculations. The program will review basic math concepts including area and volume, decimals and percents, calculating averages and completing necessary conversions.

The program will also cover more complex calculations used for process control such as, velocity and flow, process loading and performance, sludge pumping and chemical addition.

The course includes �real world� examples to assist the participant in understanding the formulas necessary to perform the calculations.

If you are experiencing difficulty in performing many of the wastewater calculations required or would like a review, this program will be extremely beneficial.

2.0 training credits for substitution of operator experience, where applicable, will be awarded for sucessful completion.

Up to 14.0 contact hours for continuing professional education (CPE) requirements will be awarded for attendence.

Registrations are accepted on a "first come, first serve" basis.

The cost of registration is $150 payable by check or money order.

DEQ Operator Training Program - Small Plant Testing, Roanoke 11/27-11/28/12

The DEQ, Operator Training Program will be conducting a Wastewater Small Plant Testing workshop on November 27-28, 2012 (8:30am - 4:30 pm) at the DEQ Blue Ridge Regional Office in Roanoke, VA.

This two day workshop will focus on topics of specific interest to small (<40,000 gpd) treatment facility owners and operators.

Hands on activities will focus on requirements and procedures for on-site effluent testing and will include: (a) performing the dissolved oxygen (D.O.) test using a D.O. meter; (b) performing the total residual chlorine using a direct readout DPD colorimetric procedure; (c) performing the pH test using a pH meter and electrode(s).

The program will also include discussions of determining composite sample volumes, sample collection and preservation methods, recordkeeping, quality assurance/quality control requirements, completion of the discharge monitoring report, selection of a contract laboratory, and sources of assistance.

Managers, operators and operator trainees of small activated sludge treatment systems will find this program very helpful.

The workshop has been approved by the State Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators and Onsite Sewage System Professionals for 1.0 training credit.

Up to 14 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Contact Hours will also be given for completion of the workshop.

The workshop registration fee is $100 per person paid by check or money order.
