Apple Ridge Farm Environmental Education Center Science Museum of Western VA Apple Ridge Farm offers hands-on outdoor educational experiences. Main activities cover: terrestrial investigations, aquatic ecology, animal studies, & cooperation. $4.00 per student for each visit to Apple Farm, $2.00 per student for classroom instruction (package deals are available).
Roanoke County Parks and Recreation Outdoor Education 1206 Kessler Mill Road Roanoke Parks & Recreation Department schedules lots of adventure and educational programs and trips to groups of all ages in the Roanoke Valley and the surrounding area. Contact RCPR for a brochure describing complete program offerings.
3751 4-H Club Road Situated on the James River, this is an ideal location to study water quality, marine life and saving the Bay. History comes alive with an overnight excursion that includes field trips to Yorktown and Jamestown along with instructions on how colonists dealt with daily life and illness. Day-long and overnight field trips can be scheduled for groups.
P.O. Box 8508 Field trips and outreach programs are offered to students on topics such as the historical uses of Virginia's natural resources, and environmental and historical education. Call or write VEP for information. Cost for student field trips is $3.00 per student (under 6 are free) and $6.00 for adults.
Audubon Naturalist Society 8940 Jones Mill Road Field trips (1-hour to 1-day) for adults to local and regional sites of environmental interest are available year-round. Cost varies with program; contact ANS for list of programs and dates.
Friendship Environmental Education Camp P. O. Box 145 A 700 acre "classroom" for ecology studies along the Rivanna River in central Virginia. One- to five-day programs for students and educators. Rates depend on length of stay, accommodations, and programming. A typical 3-day program costs approximately $65 per student.
Maymont Foundation Maymont is a 100-acre Victorian estate in Richmond with a museum, formal gardens, native wildlife exhibits, nature center, carriage collection, and "live-animal" children's farm. Special programs and tours can be scheduled Tuesday through Friday. Nature camps for a variety of ages are available. Contact MF for details.
Virginia Museum of Natural History Want to see dinosaur tracks in Virginia? Museum staff conduct field trips to places of natural history interest around Virginia. Fees vary. Contact VMNH for a list of current programs and registration information.
Friends of the Rappahannock P. O. Box 7254 Environmental education programs are available including seasonal wildflower walks, historic walks, and tours of the Rappahannock canal system. Call FR for calendar of events. Fees vary. Weekend and evening programs are available throughout the year; weekday programs are only available during the summer months.
National Wildlife Federations Mountain Laurel Trail National Wildlife Federation The Mountain Laurel Trail is located at NWF's Laurel Ridge Conservation Education Center in northern Virginia. The self-guiding trail provides an opportunity to study the plants and animals of northern Virginia in their natural environments. The handicapped-accessible trail is open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset. Contact NWF for additional information on scheduled activities.

Beautiful state parks abound in Virginia - perfect for field trips and site visits. Many parks have visitor centers to help guests learn more about the natural and cultural history of the area and park staff to assist you.
