TMDL Implementation Progress
Division of Mined Land Reclamation - TMDL Workshop
Virginia's Department of Mines, Minerals, and Energy's Division of Mined Land Reclamation (DMLR) recently hosted a workshop on total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) for resource extraction impaired streams.
The workshop, held from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm on September 28th, 2006 at Virginia Highlands Community College in Abingdon, Virginia, was aimed at representatives of Virginia's coal mining industry. About 20 people attended the workshop. Representatives from DMLR, the Department of Environmental Quality, coal industry, consulting firms and law firms presented TMDL-related information. The presentations can be viewed on this page.
If you have questions regarding the workshop, you may contact Joey O'Quinn, DMLR Reclamation Specialist, at 276-523-8151 or joey.oquinn@dmme.virginia.gov. Valley Region's First TMDL Implementation Workshop
On February 24, 2006, DEQ's Valley Region held the first TMDL Implementation Workshop to focus on water quality and conservation issues facing the Shenandoah Valley. The workshop was designed to bring Valley stakeholders together to learn from one and other's experiences in tackling water quality issues in their own communities and working on implementing TMDLs. A total of 64 people were in attendance, with broad representation from state and local agencies, local government, non-profit organizations and community watershed groups.

Implementation Project Progress
The goal of TMDL implementation is to restore water quality in impaired watersheds. To gage progress toward this goal, DEQ tracks Best Management Practice (BMP) installations and continues to monitor water quality in the impaired watersheds.
DEQ and partner agencies are making progress towards the goal of improving water quality in the Commonwealth. To see what progress has been made to date, scroll down to view TMDL Implementation status reports.
