The Department of Environmental Quality hosted seven open house community meetings throughout Virginia during October and November 2004. The meetings were part of DEQ’s initiative to enhance opportunities for community involvement in environmental activities in Virginia.

These meetings strengthened DEQ’s ability to work more closely with organizations and communities around the state and gave participants opportunities to discuss environmental issues that were important to them with the DEQ staff in their area.

The target audiences for the meetings were primarily individuals and organizations who did not already have a working relationship with DEQ. The meetings were open to the public, but numerous groups such as community educators and planners, conservation organizations, neighborhood associations and others were invited to attend.

DEQ held all meetings except the one in Lynchburg at its regional offices. The dates, addresses and times were:
