Seacil the Seahorse

(Photo right) "Seacil of the Seagrass", the Virginia Seaside Heritage Program's seahorse mascot, joined Omar of the Reef (who has made numerous appearances for the Virginia Oyster Heritage Program) and the Virginia Eastern Shorekeeper, Richard Ayers, for a special tour of Virginia's seaside barrier islands. Seacil makes appearances at exhibits and other events in support of the Virginia Seaside Heritage Program.

Seagrass Restoration on the Eastern Shore
Meadows of South Bay off Oyster, Virginia

Calling all recreational divers and snorklers! 100 local community volunteers needed to collect up to 10 million eelgrass seeds!

The Nature Conservancy, along with several partners in the Seaside Heritage Seagrass Community Restoration Program, are once again gearing up for the largest seagrass restoration project in the world!

Bring a face mask, snorkel and towel(s). If you have a wetsuit, please bring it. Some wetsuits will be available, but may nee dto be shared. The seed collection will be timed around mid-day, high tide and trips will last 5-6 hours.

A training workshop for interested volunteers will be held. Date to be determined. Volunteers will be trained on how to identify the reproductive shoots and how to collect and bag them.
