Project Title:
Virginia Seaside Heritage Program – Year 5. Coordination and Management Plan
Project Description as Proposed:
The focus of Year 5 will be continuation of all tasks. The Coastal Program’s Coastal Specialist will ensure that all available data layers for the seaside are on the Coastal Geospatial and Educational Mapping System (GEMS) website. Coordination efforts include 2-3 meetings per year of Seaside partners. Coastal Staff will continue to promote the need for restoration funds for the seaside through news articles, field days, etc. Conflict issues between aquaculture, shorebird habitat and other uses, will be addressed through the development of management recommendations and best management practices for state and federal agencies and the two local governments. Oyster, scallop, seagrass, wetlands and bird habitat restoration will continue and plans for future restoration needs and funding requirements will be determined. Ecotourism improvements will continue through the enhancement of existing public access sites. The Virginia CZM Program will also work with Seaside Program partners to continue development of a Management Plan for the seaside of Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
