Project Title:
Blue-Green Infrastructure Mapping and Policy Integration
Project Description as Proposed:
Components of this
project will be subcontracted in order to help meet the objectives
of the Virginia Coastal Program’s “Blue-Green Infrastructure
(BGI) Mapping and Policy Integration Strategy” that was proposed
during the last Section 309 planning cycle. The Strategy is designed
to create practical linkages among agencies and between levels of
government to better accomplish the integration of local land use
decisions with state water use decisions. Improving coordination
among state agencies and local governments is a major objective
of the Coastal Program and is critical for implementing many of
the programs and policies developed through Coastal Program funding
over the years. Ensuring that all interested parties have easy access
to the same data makes coordination easier to accomplish. The intent
of this project is to develop blue and green infrastructure data
layers that meet individual agency needs for coastal resource management
and also support the Coastal Program’s efforts to create an
internet mapping system that would be a web accessible “one
stop shop” for coastal resource data.
Subcommittees of the Coastal Policy Team have been working to define
Blue and Green Infrastructure as well as to provide guidance on
policy integration projects. Coastal Program staff solicited proposals
from the CPT for this third year of BGI and Integration Strategy
projects. Based on staff and CPT review, projects are selected for
funding, submitted to NOAA’s Coastal Program Division for programmatic
review and approval and subcontracted to appropriate agencies.
