Project Title:
First Landing State Park Walkway Renovations
Project Description as Proposed:
The project scope includes demolishing the existing 40-inch wide, 20 year old elevated wooden walkway. The existing walkway will be replaced with a new 8-foot wide elevated wooden walkway that meets current building codes and ADA accessibility standards. The project must be completed by March 2007 for use in the re-enactment of the first landing at Virginia Beach as part of the 2007 commemoration of the settlement of Jamestown, Virginia. The new construction shall minimize disturbance of the adjacent dunes and vegetation. The layout of the new walkway shall closely follow the existing walkway.

Project Summary Provided by Grantee:
This project consisted of the construction of a 450 foot elevated board walk connecting the Visitor Center at First Landing State Park with the beach. The board walk is a fully handicapped accessible structure elevated to cross the parks dune system. The project was completed and made available for public use on April 20, 2007. It should be noted that this project involved a number of funding sources including $30,000 of CZM funds, $130,000 of state funds and $100,000 of Recreational Trail Funds.
