Project Title:
Coastal Nonpoint Source Pollution Program Development and Implementation
Project Description as Proposed:
Virginia will continue
to develop projects to implement the Coastal Nonpoint Pollution
Control Program. As identified in the Virginia Nonpoint Source Pollution
Management Program document (approved December 1999), there are
9 source category chapters containing 507 action items. The CNPCP
Chapter has 82 tasks to be accomplished over the 5-year period of
2000 – 2005. There are 7 other agencies with the lead responsibility
to accomplish 28 of the 82 tasks. DCR is the lead agency on the
remaining 54 tasks. Issue areas for this grant cycle include but
are not limited to:
1) continue implementation of a clean marina program, including
workshops, boat shows, awards ceremony, conducting site evaluations,
and fact sheets ;
2) evaluation of BMP implementation activities and incorporating
information into the Virginia NPS Pollution Potential Assessment
Report;
3) continue to support OSDS program development;
4) providing technical assistance to local governments;
5) promoting the development of watershed management plans;
6) develop projects to implement the NPS document Hydromodification
chapter; and
7) continue coordination & integration with other state programs.
The Program Coordinator is also responsible for managing DCR’s
Coastal NPS grant program. This includes:
1) evaluating submitted proposals and negotiating final work plans;
2) preparing contract packages and tracking project progress;
3) preparing semiannual and final reports for DEQ;
4) reviewing and editing final work products; and
5) disseminating individual project results & information to
appropriate organizations.
