Virginia Coastal Program: 2003 Coastal Grant Project Description and Final Summary
Project Task:
FY2003 Task 1.03
Grantee:
Estuarine Research Federation
Project Title:
18th Biennial Conference of the Estuarine Research Federation, ERF 2005, Estuarine Interactions: Biological Feedbacks and Adaptations
Project Description as Proposed:
This project will
support the 18th Biennial Conference of the Estuarine Research Federation
(ERF 2005) Conference to be held in Norfolk in October 2005. Funding
will assist the Federation in printing the ERF 2005 Conference Program
and Abstract Book. As a supporter of the conference, the Virginia
Coastal Program will also receive recognition on the ERF Web site
and in conference materials, including an ad in the conference program.
The Program will also receive exhibit space at the conference.
The Estuarine Research Federation is the only scientific society
that focuses exclusively on research, management and restoration
of estuarine and coastal ecosystems. ERF conferences provide timely
forums for the presentation of coastal research. One of the biennial
conference's highlights is the exchange between coastal scientists
and managers whose jobs are to understand and apply the cutting
edge research to urgent management topics. They also provide an
excellent opportunity for students to interact with the professionals
in their field.
The 2005 ERF conference includes a 2-day Chesapeake Bay colloquium
organized by both the Chesapeake Research Consortium and the Estuarine
Research Federation. The colloquium will highlight the newest finding
in research and management specific to this region. Virginia coastal
zone management funded scientists and managers will be attending
and participating in many of the 73 symposia, special sessions and
contributed sessions.
Researchers, students and managers in the Chesapeake Bay region
as well as throughout the world will interact and exchange information
through several organized and informal venues including oral and
poster presentations, panel discussions, town hall meetings, workshops,
receptions, synthesis dialogues and more. Casual seating throughout
the two conference venues will encourage informal, but important
discussions between participants at any time.
