Project Summary Provided by Grantee:

The Hampton Roads Technical Assistance Program encompasses the basic environmental planning technical assistance program of the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission. It enables the HRPDC tp provide technical assistance on environmental issues to its sixteen member local governments; participate in and support the VCRMP; support a comprehensive regional coordination process; undertake special technical studies; and, provide public information and education on environmental issues. This report documents the activities undertaken during FY 2000-2001. It includes the Project Summary Report, copies of representative project review letters, meeting agenda packages, Position Statements developed through the process and adopted by the HRPDC, and copies of the HRPDC Quarterly Newsletter. Copies of the final report were distributed to the VCRMP, NOAA, and the HRPDC Commissioners.

Through this project, the HRPDC reviewed and commented on approximately fifty (50) EIA/EIS; facilitated and provided technical studies to support the work of the Hampton Roads Chesapeake Bay, the Hampton Roads Tributary Strategy Project Steering, and Ad Hoc Wetlands Committees, as they addressed Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act, Tributary Strategies and Wetlands, respectively; represented the region's localities on state, regional and local advisory committees; coordinated local participation in several Corps of Engineers studies; and coordinated the Coastal PDC Network. Extensive HRPDC staff and Committee participation in the Chesapeake Bay Program, on behalf of the localities, has occurred. This program continues to provide the financial seed to assist the region's localities in establishing ongoing environmental programs.
