Tidal Wetlands Management Technical Support
Project Description as Proposed:
The project provides operational support for tidal wetlands management technical support provided by Virginia Institute of Marine Science Wetlands Program staff. Specifically, the project will continue support for; 1) Shoreline Permit Application assessments (site visits, report preparation), 2) assist in publication of 6-8 technical reports and 3 newsletters distributed to appromately 1200 individuals, 3) Preparation of materials and coordination of efforts for outreach education offerings, and maintenance of the exisiting permit data base web sites including new modifications, as necessary, in reponse to new approaches in permit assessment and tracking.

Program publications have been submitted with the quarterly reports.
Maintenance and modifications to the permit tracking database were
part of a longer-term effort to serve permit reviews on the web
site. Permit reviews were made available on the web site for the
first time in January 2001. Five computer-based elements (GPS, digital
photography, Sybase, word processing, and ArcView/ArcInfo) are required
in order to produce the electronic permit review reports. The system
is currently semi-automated but requires staff interaction on a
daily basis. Continual data entry is required. Minor adjustments
continue to be made to ensure accuracy and consistency.
