Project Title:
Habitat Restoration and Natural Heritage Planning Support for Coastal Localities: Year 6
Project Description as Proposed:
The Locality Liaison (LL) program, through the provision of information and assistance to local governments to help them make more informed and timely natural resource decisions, helps to conserve critical natural resources and facilitate economic development by reducing regulatory opposition and delay. The LL works with local and regional planners to improve access to natural heritage resource information and consultative services from DCR-DNH and its Biological and Conservation Database (BCD), ensuring that natural heritage resource information is an integral part of the decision-making process through tools such as project review, comprehensive plans, project sitings, zoning amendments, and open space planning. The majority of the habitat conservation projects will be targeted to riparian areas, thus directly addressing the Commonwealth's water quality improvement and nonpoint source programs, and further integrating our water quality improvement programs with DCR and local government conservation programs.
