Report: Shoreline Management Plan with Habitat Enhancement for Town of Saxis, Virginia.

Project Summary Provided by Grantee:

The Shoreline Management Plan with Habitat Enhancement for the Town of Saxis, Virginia (the Plan) was developed to provide the Town of Saxis with a solution to control shoreline erosion. Although theMay 1, 2006 to acquire support and funding for implementation. The Plan includes a detailed analysis of historical shoreline movements, a shoreline survey tied to Virginia State Plane coordinates, a wave climate analysis, a biological survey of fauna and flora in the shore zone, and a recommended shoreline plan that includes beakwaters and beach fill for long term shore protection. This composite system was developed using the aforementioned analysis that integrated habitat into the final plan. Although, breakwater systems are not uncommon around Chesapeake Bay and they do provide an environmental edge, this configuration allows for even more habitat creation but not compromising long term shoreline protection.
