This program supported Virginia's Riparian Forest Buffer protection, and Habitat Restoration planning through the primary management tools available to local governments: Comprehensive Planning, Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances, and Geographic Databases accessed through Geographic Information Systems.

The MPPDC provided technical assistance to the member localities on Virginia coastal resource management issues through the implementation of the following specific activities:
Assistance with Localities' Comprehensive Plan Revisions and Zoning Ordinance
Updates
Liaison Activities and Regional Information Center
Management of the Middle Peninsula Geographic Information System (MPGIS)
Consultation/Training on GIS for Member Localities

The final work product of the program is a Final Report containing a listing of activities and a series of GIS mapping analyses produced throughout the grant year. The highlights of the program include extensive GIS support to the County of King & Queen and the Town of West Point. ArcView GIS training was held for local planning staff and a quick start ArcView workbook was produced. An extensive review of Matthews County Plans and Ordinances was conducted and reported to the Planning Commission subcommittee.
