Project Summary Provided by Grantee:
The Eastern Shore of Virginia Tributary Strategy Project consisted of three tasks, Eastern Shore Tributary Strategy Development, Eastern Shore Land use / Hydrogeology GIS Database, and Land Acquisition for habitat conservation.
Task 1. Eastern Shore Tributary Strategy. A-NPDC staff assisted the Eastern Shore Tributary Strategy Team Leader in convening the Eastern Shore Tributary Strategy Committee, conducting Committee meetings, and assessing local government non-point source reduction programs.
Task 2. Land use / Hydrogeology GIS Database. A-NPDC staff managed the consultant contract for development of the Eastern Shore Land Use / Hydrogeology GIS Database. The project assembled existing Accomack County and Northampton County land use and hydrogeological data into a GIS database. The GIS database was then used to develop a report summarizing hydrogeological trends indicated by the data. A data compact disk with the Arc View GIS data was produced as part of the project.
Task 3. Land Acquisition. ANPDC staff worked with the Department of Conservation and Recreation staff to identify and assess critical habitat for acquisition. The Parsons Tract adjacent to Kiptopeke State Park was selected.
