Project Title:

Eastern Shore Town Chesapeake Bay Act Assistance Project

Project Description as Proposed:

Will implement nonpoint source pollution control and water quality protection measures required by the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act by bringing the five remaining Eastern Shore towns into compliance with the Bay Act.(Only, Parksley, Belle Haven, Onacock and Exmore). Develop through local adoption of comprehensive town plan amendments and subdivision ordinances. Provide planning technical assistance to 14 Eastern Shore towns as requested for implementation of local programs. In addition, workshops will be conducted to provide training in zoning administration and enforcement for town officials and zoning administrators, so that town zoning ordinances can more effectively implement and enforce the objectives of the Bay Act and protect water quality by decreasing nonpoint source water pollution.

Project Summary Provided by Grantee:

The intent of this project was to continue a program of technical assistance to Eastern Shore Towns consisting of development of Comprehensive Plan Amendments. These plans will implement state mandated nonpoint source water pollution control and water quality improvement measures, which is necessary for full compliance with the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act. Enclosed are Comprehensive Plan Amendments for the towns of Onancock, Onley, Parksley and Cape Charles. The Town of Onley is expected to adopt its Comprehensive Plan Amendment on December 14, 1998. The Towns of Onancock and Parksley are expected to have their Plans adopted this January. The Cape Charles Comprehensive Plan Amendment is expected to be adopted in February. Upon adoption of the Plan Amendments, any documents which have been revised will be forwarded to VCRMP.
