Regional Ozone Modeling
The purpose of ozone modeling is to test emission reduction strategies and demonstrate the ability of these strategies to reach and maintain attainment of the national ambient air quality standards, or NAAQS. Ozone models are used to simulate meteorological conditions and pollutant concentrations during an episode.

Ozone Early Action Compacts
Early Action Compacts (EACs) are agreements by the localities, DEQ and EPA to develop ozone early action plans to reduce ozone precursor pollutants and improve air quality in a proactive manner. In return, these areas receive a delay in official nonattainment area designations and related requirements. Currently, the two areas that have signed compacts are Roanoke and Winchester/Frederick County. The Roanoke EAC was signed by EPA on December 23rd and the Winchester/Frederick County EAC was signed on December 30th. For more information, please contact Tom Ballou or Jim Sydnor.
