Town of Smithfield has applied for reissuance of a permit, with modification, for Smithfield Public Water System. The permit would allow the applicant to withdraw an average of 1,284,384 gallons per day. The groundwater withdrawal will be used to supply feed water to a reverse osmosis treatment facility that will provide the public water supply, with similar existing residential and commercial uses supported by the previous permit. The proposed withdrawal will utilize the Upper Potomac Aquifer and the Middle Potomac Aquifer at a depth between 384 feet to 475 feet below land surface and between 505 feet to 992 feet below the land surface, respectively, at the withdrawal site. An aquifer is a body of rock or layer of sediment in the ground in which groundwater is stored and transported. DEQ has made a tentative decision to issue the permit.

The Smithfield Packing Company, Inc. has applied for reissuance of a permit, with modification, for The Smithfield Packing Company, Inc. The permit would allow the applicant to withdraw an average of 2,604,110 gallons per day. The groundwater withdrawal will be used to provide water for the operation and maintenance of the meat processing and packaging plant. The proposed withdrawal will utilize the Upper Potomac Aquifer and the Middle Potomac Aquifer at a depth between 320 feet to 520 feet below land surface and between 560 feet to 900 feet below the land surface, respectively, at the withdrawal site. An aquifer is a body of rock or layer of sediment in the ground in which groundwater is stored and transported. DEQ has made a tentative decision to issue the permit.

May 30, 2013 to July 1, 2013  Central Office  C. Erinn Tisdale  Prince George County  Beechwood/Jordan on the James Water System 

Prince George County has applied for issuance of a combined permit for the Beechwood Manor and the Jordan on the James Water Systems in Prince George County, Virginia. These systems previously held separate withdrawal permits.  The permit would allow the applicant to withdraw an average of 136,904 gallons per day. The ground water withdrawal will support the residential connections within the Beechwood Manor and the Jordan on the James service areas and the pending Chappell Creek and Eagle Preserve developments. The proposed withdrawal will utilize the Middle Potomac aquifer at a depth between 87 feet to 387 feet below the land surface at the withdrawal site. An aquifer is a body of rock or layer of sediment in the ground in which ground water is stored and transported. DEQ has made a tentative decision to issue the permit.
